Can A Cruise Be Cheaper Than Your Average Family Holiday?

Unfortunately, family holidays are not cheap. If you are looking to create memories with your children, then it is understandable that you will want to find deals that will give you plenty of adventures – and that won’t strain your finances.

Cruises have something of a reputation when it comes to holidays. Many people think that they are a very expensive option. Whilst this can be the case, depending on where you go and how you choose to travel, there are plenty of cruise companies that run cruises aimed at families which are much better if you are on a budget.

Let’s take a look at why family cruises might, in fact, be cheaper than your average family holiday.

What is included in your cruise price?

Cruises offer a range of different packages when it comes to food and drink. The most basic packages will still offer you plenty of options but if you want to dine in the more expensive places on board then you do need to pay more. The cost of your cruise will include your accommodation, meals, activities, snacks and entertainment. It is important to note that it probably won’t cover all of the options on board, but it will certainly cover a good number of these. The basic package may be more than enough for you and your family. It really depends on what you would like to experience or do during your cruise.

Prices can vary from one time of the year to another. Therefore, it is a good idea if you can look for those times with cheaper options, although obviously this is not always an option with children. If you have younger children then they may be easily entertained with many of the free, or cheaper, activities on board, and this will certainly help to keep costs down.

In addition to the costs that you pay upfront for your cruise there are likely to be some expenses that you will pick up along the way, and you will want to keep an eye on these to make sure that they do not become too expensive.

Spreading the cost

The other thing that is well worth considering is that you pay for most of the things you will enjoy on your cruise in advance. Therefore, if you don’t go on excursions there is little need to pay for many extras, you can budget the cost much better. Because you know the price of your cruise you can actually split the cost out in full, pay the deposit and then put money aside each month knowing how much you will need overall. This can make your holiday seem more affordable as well.

Adding things like the gratuity package to the cost of your cruise before you sail means that you will be free to really enjoy your time on board rather than thinking about the additional bills that are adding up and will need paying at the end of the holiday.

With so much to entertain children on board a cruise ship it really does make an excellent, and in many cases cheaper, holiday for the whole family.
