The Average Cost Of A 2 Week Cruise And What You Can Expect On Board

One of the first things that people have in mind when they plan any kind of holiday, and that includes cruises, is the budget. That is the amount that they can afford to pay out on their accommodation, travel and food, and for the majority of individuals the average holiday is a fortnight in order to get the most from those often-expensive flight costs.

With that in mind let’s take a look at what the cost of an average two-week cruise might be and exactly what you will be getting for your money.

Factors that affect the cost of your cruise

When it comes to the cost of your cruise there are a number of different factors that will have a bearing on the overall cost. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Destination (s)
  • Cruise line
  • Food and drinks packages chosen
  • High or low season – prices are generally higher during the summer and holiday periods
  • Type of cabin chosen

With that in mind let us go on to explore the average cost of a two-week cruise based on some averages. This amount doesn’t take into account any money that you might spend on things not included in the cost of your cruise so you would need to account for those costs separately. You should also consider the cost of getting to and from the cruise ship as well.

If you want to give yourself a more accurate cost before you sail then it can be a good idea to prepay your gratuities, otherwise this will be added onboard.

What will it cost?

Within the industry, the price per person per day (pppd) is often used to work out how much a cruise will cost. This price can be as low as £60 pppd and can rise to a couple of hundred. Public reports for 2023 indicate that the average daily cost per person was £120 – £195. This will, of course, depend on the cruise line and takes into account some of those factors mentioned above.

Broken down by the cruise line, according to financial reports for 2023, cruises with Carnival cost an average of £120 pppd (£1680 for 2 weeks per person). With Royal Caribbean those costs are a little higher at £140 pppd (£1960 for the two weeks) and with Norwegian these costs are around £195 pppd (£2730 for a single person on a two-week cruise).

What you will get for these prices is the cost of your accommodation in a more basic cabin and your basic food and drink package. Any of the more specialty packages will cost you more, as will upgrading to a bigger cabin with more space and facilities. To some extent within the cost of your cruise the price is very much dictated by the experience that you want. Excursions are not included in this amount and will cost you extra, however, you may find some of them very much worthy of the extra costs.
